1/ Just a little reminder to suck up and embrace the pain (a thread)...
I ran across this quote by Arthur Schopenhauer the other day and it got me thinking:
"The greatest achievements of the human mind are generally received with distrust."

2/ Schopenhauer is one of my favorite philosophers. Aside from being brilliant and relatively readable, he was the crankiest, grouchiest old man, like, ever. His entire life was basically a never-ending, “Get off my lawn!”
3/ Anyway, I love this quote because one thing I often talk about is how change is inherently painful. If someone ever tells you that they changed their life and they talk about it the same way kids talk about Disneyworld, be skeptical. Very skeptical.
4/ Real change is unpleasant for the simple reason that you’re stepping outside of yourself, challenging preconceived notions, going against your better assumptions and emotions. It’s not fun. In fact, it often sucks.
5/ Schopenhauer points out that this change isn’t just difficult for you, but for everyone else as well. Humans don’t like shaking up the status quo. We’re creatures of habit.
6/ Any time someone makes a big breakthrough, be it in business, politics, or entertainment—everyone’s first inclination is to usually call bullshit. Keep that in mind any time you’re pushing the limits. Backlash is not the exception, but the rule, of progress.
