Trying to pick up a good habit (reading books, getting up early, meditation), but can't?
It is because doing difficult things is difficult for a wide range of reasons.

1/ Jeremy Bentham gave the theory of pleasure and pain.
As humans, we want to avoid pain. Therefore, we have a hard time inculcating new habits.
How to overcome: acknowledge that you are pursuing a difficult thing. Reward small progress.
This keeps you motivated.

2/ We don't practice doing hard things.
For example: if you want to read more books. Try reading 2-3 books at a time, ranging from easy to difficult.
This way you will find 'moderate' books 'easy'.
Zero exposure to difficult books will never amp up your skillset.

3/We look for external validations (all the times)
We want external validations for everything.
No one is going to celebrate the first time you do 20 push-ups (maybe except you!)
Difficult things are done alone.
If done well, they might eventually get recognition.
