Dea Roma & the "Whore of Babylon" in Revelation 17 [Thread]
Here is a fascinating Roman coin from the reign of the emperor Vespasian (r. 69-79 CE), showing Dea Roma (the goddess of Rome) seated on the seven hills of Rome. Sound familiar ?
It should if you have read Revelation. In Rev 17:9, the whore of Babylon also sits on 7 hills. Coincidence? Not likely. It is just one piece of evidence among several that undoubtedly shows that Revelation was written in the historical context of the Roman empire.
All of the events of the "end times" were supposed to occur in that time. The author was predicting the fall of Rome in his time (the empire didn't fall for another 300+ years and for totally different reasons).
Any Christian who still believes that the events of Revelation will happen in modern times is sure to be disappointed. For more evidence that Revelation is filled with false prophecies & should be read in its proper historical context, see my article and video.
