As for Hari Ram Gupta’s book, it’s a work with which I sometimes take disagreement (I’d have to read the primary sources cited), but it’s fair game since he’s an actual scholar unlike this wannabe. He actually has an entire chapter dedicated to his thesis on this relationship.
He has cherry-picked the excerpt with Akali Phula Singh; here’s the preceding passage. I also think Hari Ram Gupta does a disservice here by not noting at all the incident where Phula Singh punished Ranjit Singh - I’d want to read primary sources before accepting all this.
