5 Corporate sins (in India):
[A thread...]
[1] Going to your boss with a problem.
- Most of your supervisors have their own problems to deal with.
- They don't want to babysit you (just stating a fact).
- True mentors are a very rare breed.
So go with solutions, not problems.
[2] Not being diplomatic.
- If you are not a "dolga insaan" (a double faced person), you will have a short corporate career.
- Being an opportunist is a skill that is required at most corporate jobs.
If you are not tactful (and 100% honest), you will always get bad projects
[3] No mendicancy and bootlicking.
- Well, your boss likes to be praised. Plain and simple.
- They like to be in control and every genius ideas needs to flow from their fountainhead.
So give credit to win.
[4] Gossiping.
- Oh boi! if you thought that your colleagues are your friends, you have another thing coming.
- The more info they have on you, the more likely it is to be misused.
Be very careful and don't disclose your MBA or job switch plans.
[5] Performing lower than your salary.
- You are either an asset/liability.
- Your performance is turned into a number.
- And, if that number exceeds your salary, you stay or you go out.
[6] Summary:
Do I agree with all this? No, therefore I was out with a few years.
Just stating facts, so that it can help corporate noobs.
