Hey team, here’s a quick thread to update you about what I’ve been working on this week in the book-writing journey.
(1) what I learned from my book research;
(2) the Q I'm working on (input needed 🙏)
(3) shoutouts to some cool responses we got last week
1. What I Learned
Sometimes doing a hard but fun task (e.g. learning a new song) can be more energising than doing an easy but fun activity (e.g. watching Netflix)
Other times, doing an easy task is the exact thing I need. Important to know what works for you and when it works.
2. Question of the Week
What are some examples of activities (or work tasks) that energize/drain you? Why do you think they energize/drain you?
If you’re up for sharing a story that might feature in the book (with a printed shoutout) please respond here aliabdaal.typeform.com
3. Answer From Last Week
Shoutout to Martje who shared this cool hack using spreadsheets to increase motivation:
“For my PhD... I divided the tasks into 15-60 minute tasks and made an excel spreadsheet. For each task I finished I'd get a point and at the end of each day I'd gain 1-3 percent on my total.... it gave me the motivation to keep going.”
