“Should I start an eCom brand or a marketing agency to make my first dollar online?”
If you find yourself asking this, then this thread is for you 🧵:
If you want to make money online but have zero direction for it
Then, this thread is for you
It will guide you on your journey of making your first dollar online to scaling to $10k a month
So, keep reading
For beginners, I recommend these 2 main routes to make money online:
1. Ecom brand
2. Starting an agency
Today, I am going to cover:
1. What are the both routes?
2. What are the pros and cons of each route?
3. What are the steps to starting a marketing agency?
4. What are the steps to starting an eCom brand?
This is going to be a little longer than my usual threads but totally worth your time
Before I get into the details, you need to understand these 5 things:
1/ Each route is different
Each one of these routes have their own pros and cons, and
Each route will require a different skill set that you would have to master
So understand this and commit to your path and you’d be good
If you do not know how to master a skill then read this thread:

2/ Manage your expectations
This is how you effectively manage your expectations:
1/ Ecom Brand
If you have been here with me on my journey, you already know me
For the newbies here:
I am Wiz of Ecom
I have built multiple 6, 7 figure stores and have scaled multiple client stores to 7 figs and beyond
And, I can assure you that:
Ecom is a great option for beginners like you, because
You get to learn how to run a business and be incharge of multiple roles
1. You're a marketer, you’re incharge of customer support, and you’re fulfillment
2. You learn how to go viral on social media
3. You understand the entire ecommerce ecosystem of acquiring customers, retaining them, and figuring out more ways to get more sales
Ecom is beginner friendly because the start up costs are no longer that expensive because of TikTok
The TikTok boom gives newbies with low budget the opportunity to test products efficiently by creating multiple creative videos around a specific product
You have the chance to go viral off a single video
By testing multiple videos and angles for each product, you can efficiently find a winner without spending hundreds on ads for each product
For your Ecom brand, you can take a few routes:
A/ Dropshipping
If you are serious about making money online, you've already heard about this
The Pros are:
1. Low overhead cost
2. Can kill product quickly and test new ones
3. Fast way to master eCom
The Cons are:
1. Shipping times are absolutely terrible
2. Product quality usually sucks
3. Finding a winning product might be time consuming (NOT expensive anymore because of TikTok)
If you go this route, you need to choose a product that is either
1. A pain killer - solves a problem
2. A vitamin - enhances someone's life
Best way to figure out what these are is by studying eCom brand and deconstructing what they are doing
B/ Print on demand (POD)
POD is another easy barrier of entry route for new eCom brand owners
You can print your designs on white label products like hats, clothing, supplements, etc
The Pros are:
1. Low barrier of entry (easy to setup)
2. Can have a store live in a few days
3. Good shipping times
The Cons are:
It’s hard to stand out
People have to buy into a story, the community and the emotion behind your products if you want to be successful.
Emotional connection + great designs = $$$$”
C/ Your own product
In my opinion, this is the best route for starting an Ecom brand
This is about creating or finding a product that:
1. Has a strong product-market fit
2. Don’t have much competition in the market
The Pros are:
1. High barrier of entry, not many people will be able to copy
2. Branding it in a unique way and solving real problems
3. Can really focus on customer experience and high-quality marketing
The Cons are:
High risk if it fails - you lose a lot of money
Read this thread to have the exact steps you need to open a successful Ecom brand
In Ecom, there are multiple skills you will have to master because most beginners don't have crazy budgets to hire teams

This takes us to 2nd route,
2/ A Marketing Agency
Marketing agencies are about mastering a monetizable skill and selling it as a service to business owners who need it
The process involves:
1. Choosing a high income skill to master
2. Becoming an expert at it by learning about it in our Marketers Utopia
3. Practicing for free then getting clients
Clients will come in and pay you thousands a month to help them make more money
FOR EXAMPLE
I own an eCom brand.
It does $150k a month and 2% of the revenue comes from emails
If you owned an email marketing agency, you would be able to offer that as a service to me by poking at my pain points and understanding my goals for my brand
Running an agency is broken off into 6 main buckets:
1. Creating an agency and defining your offer
2. Mastering a skill
3. Prospecting and close
4. Onboarding
5. Getting clients results and systemization
6. Reporting and optimization
Read this thread to get the detailed information about each one of these:

In the end, some advice for you:
A. Don't get clients to pay you if you cannot get the results
B. Work for free initially to get your reps in and a testimonial from your client
C. Practice the skill for 30 days before working for free (at least 30 days)
D. Manage your expectations
