Upon falling down the rabbit hole I’ve discovered that the Pakicetus isn’t alone. There’s an entire 50 million year old extinct family of creatures known as the Pakicetidae - The Pakistani Whales.
In this family is the Pakicetus from which evolved the Whale.
Pakicetidae along with 4 other families further belong in a group called the Archaeocetes (Ancient Whales).
Some 50 million years ago the Pakicetidae lived in today’s Pakistan, along the Tethys Ocean where now exists much of the plain landmass of Pakistan.
The Pakicetus ranged from a fox to wolf size, with sideways eyes & frontal nasal openings like a crocodile, and dense bones for buoyancy. Apparently the creatures lived on land and dived into the waters to catch fish. They were in most ways completely opposite to a modern whale.
There are also some dinosaurs local to today’s Baluchistan. I’ll tell you about them too someday in shaa allah.
