What's up people? Have a good week.
A skincare profile triggered me and i decided to write a thread on how to fix skin issues from within.
Here, we will adress 3 common causes that lead to skin problems.
*Not a short thread, you will need to re-read this*
Skin problems are an extremely complicated topic because they indicate that there’s more than 1 thing that goes wrong in someone’s health.
99.9% of them are obviously fixable and you can improve 100% of them, but they can’t be approached one dimensionally.
Let’s begin.
Cause 1: Unbound iron
The reason roids cause acne and teenagers a lot of time have acne, is because sex hormones can mess up with the way iron is metabolized.
The problem is not iron itself but when it's present in its free form because due to its ability to participate in
redox reactions, iron is a catalyst for the formation of hydroxyl radicals from reduced forms of O2.
To put it as simply as we can : unbound iron is a "pro-oxidant", the opposite of an antioxidant and causes severe damage to mitochondria.
It also causes excessive bacterial overgrowth in the intestines and feeds pathogenic bacteria.
What can we do about this?
-Unless you have a health condition i’m not aware of, go donate blood.
-Stop consuming iron fortified foods (avoid all grains) and stop consuming foods extremely high in iron for 1-3 months.
-Get on a very small dose of a natural antibiotic such as oregano oil (please be careful) since antibiotics bind to iron preventing it being used by bacteria.
Ideally you want to consume 3-5 days per week for 2-3 weeks in total followed by 2-3 weeks of a probiotic/colostrum.
-Start adding in your diet the following foods: pineapple, carrots, squash, pumpkin and garlic/onions/broccoli since sulfur strongly binds to excess iron.
-Get on thiamine and ALA (better than NAC for some ppl) since they are some of the most powerful iron chelators that exist.
-Oysters should take care of any zinc deficiency that might be present and cause an iron excess.
Cause #2: Leaky gut/SIBO/Candida
Leaky gut means that the lining of the small intestine has become inflamed, damaged and overly porous.
This allows undigested foods, bacteria, molds, and other pathogens to enter into the sterile environment of the bloodstream resulting in the immune system attacking these compounds which can turn into chronic health disorders.
The majority of this work is done through diet and some supplements.
The forbidden list (a list of foods you should not consume if you want to resolve any leaky gut related health/skin conditions):
-Gluten (even spelt bread will be damaging and it’s better to stay away from any form of gluten for 3 months).
-Alcohol (alcohol and gluten make recovering from leaky gut impossible).
-Antibiotics.
-NSAIDs.
-High oxalate foods.
-Sugar (stick to raw unfiltered honey)
-Coffee (you can drink (some) yerba mate instead of coffee).
-Seed oils (when we’re referring to seed oils we are obviously talking about the ones such as : canola oil, sunflower oil, cottonseed oil etc).
-Starches (1-3 month break)
Now, if your liver is not detoxing properly, you will likely have problems with leaky gut.
So in order to support your liver you can consume things such as milk thistle, dandelion root, and schizandra in moderation.
*Even normal cheap teas do the trick*
Other things that can help support gut healing are enzymes (not for all people, this will be a trial and error individual process) , l-glutamine (bone broth/bone marrow), deglycyrrhizinated licorice root, collagen, hydrochloric acid, and some anti-fungal herbs (cinnamon).
Your diet should obviously include good sources of saturated fats such as coconut oil since they are extremely important for your digestion.
Micronutrient rich foods such as organs meats, oysters.
Quality bone marrow and gelatin (important) and some local and seasonal fruit.
Manuka honey can also greatly help you in case that you don’t have access to raw honey and of course colostrum for most.
Salt your foods (not too much obviously and say no to pink him salt) since it will provide the build blocks for stomach acid.
When it comes to water, make sure you’re not over consuming it during the day since it will lead to low stomach acid and exacerbate some problems.
If you want to try probiotics, mutaflor and boulardii are the ones with no risk for SIBO.
Obviously the last piece of the puzzle will be vitamin D.
Before talking about vitamin D you must have enough cholesterol, zinc,K2 and B12 in your diet.
So don’t skip on eggs, quality dairy, beef liver and oysters.
Then slowly start exposing your self to the sun daily.
Start with 10 minutes 3 times a day and slowly built up.
Early A.M sunlight exposure will be crucial.
Now if it’s not sunny where you live, a) still go outside and b) you can supplement vitamin D3+K2 (low dose) despite what most people say (just use a liquid form).
Cause #3 : Xenoestrogens
Obviously if you disrupt your endocrine system via xenoestrogens, you will face skin issues.
Xenoestrogens are a common cause for acne these days for example.
So here are 6 steps that will help you detox from xenoestrogens faster.
1. Avoid as many sources of xenoestrogen as you can such as:
-PUFAs
-Plastic
-Fragrances
-Fancy creams/Parabens
-Toxic toothpaste and deodorants
-Throw away your non stick pan
Replace these with natural alts such as: glass, coconut oil, b.soda, ACV and the classic skillet.
2. Sweat in the sauna 2-3 times a week in order to detox from endocrine disruptors like phthalates.
3. Eat some cruciferous veggies like broccoli 2-3 times a week after 8 weeks of healing your gut by implementing what we’ve already discussed and have Ray Peat's carrot salad.
4. Get enough beta carotene and vitamin A from whole foods such as pumpkin and beef liver since retinol can aid in bisphenol-A detoxification.
5. 250 mg of vitamin C almost daily for a month.
6. NAC and milk thistle can also greatly benefit someone.
That's all fam.
And remember, the only acceptable things to put on your face are natural ones(*) since our skin is a sponge and absorbs ANYTHING we put on it.
(*)Coconut oil, aloe vera and tallow based creams are OK.
Piece out.
