In Jan 2022... I had 3 followers
In Aug 2022... I have 19,343+ followers
I was able to do this without...
• Paid adverts
• Influencer boosts
• ...or "follow-for-follow"
Hey Solopreneur! Would you like your first 1000 followers on Twitter in 30 days?
Open this🧵:
Hey... Again! Before we get started..... Its crucial to have a solid goal for building a Twitter following
This held me back at the start. At the time... I just wanted numbers on my dashboard.
You need to understand this as a business owner.....
Followers build egos
Fans build businesses
A brand is the perception people have of you. If its good... You'll attract fans
Again...
What you want to build is a BRAND ...and NOT a followership
How to build this? Follow me:
Building a brand online takes 3 steps:
- A knowledge around a topic
- A willingness to share the gold
- A never-ending spirit of consistency
Using this brand approach pulls in the followers
Because... People will only move towards where they will have something to gain.
Over to the main juice...
You're about to learn how to
- Position yourself on this app
- Actions you need to take to grow
Brace yourselves comrades... Its about to get too VALUABLE!
𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟭: 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴:
Positioning is simply every action you take in order to place yourself as attractive to your ideal customer (the followers you want)
Its important to position yourself to attract ONE TYPE of person
If you fail to do this.. You will..
experience low cashflow
• suffer from bad engagements
Pick the ONE thing you stand for.
Positioning yourself in real life deeply depends on your physical appearance.
Positioning yourself on social media depends on your profile appearance
You need 5 things to improve this:
• A clear Bio
• A stunning profile picture
• A simple-professional name
• An attractive & supportive cover-photo
• A highly-engaged + valuable pinned tweet
We'll take each of these points one at a time.
Lets get started:
1/ Your Name
Getting a name is the first thing that happens when...
• a human is born
• you join a new society
• you log in to a new app or game
I bet you're already familiar with this.
However... Many don't get this part right...
You should avoid using
- slangs
- numbers
- shortforms
This is NO Game.
So goodbye "goldenfrancis199"
Using something simple like your full name is the best option.
Hello "FrancisGold"
And you must have figured out....
Twitter is unique..
It has two names
The name at the Top - "display name"
The name at the bottom - "username"
Name Tip1: Do NOT make it a habit to change your username often.
This name is very important. Its what people use in order to search for you. If possible... Edit it once and never again
Name Tip2: Your username could have a "|" or "•" after your name to explain what you do
2/ Profile Picture
This is the most captivating part of your positioning
The goal of your profile picture is to describe your stand
You're a health coach?
You need to look fit
You're a librarian?
You need to look like a nerd
You're a tattoo artist?
You need to look like so
Understand this... Your profile picture is your FACE on social media.
In real life.... You have a face... right? 😐
Social media isn't real life.
So.... Naturally.... You will be judged by what you have on your "social media face"
Do you see how important this is?
This is why...
If you sell cars... Don't place a car as your picture!
If you sell gaming equipment... Don't place a gamepad on your picture!
Are you gamepad in real life?
Note: Humans are highly visual. What you have on your profile picture can groom or kill your business!
What makes a decent picture?
• The quality ( Studio ✅ )
• It MUST have superb lighting
• It MUST have you at the center
• It MUST have a clear view of your face
The emotions needed?
• Friendly - smile, laugh
• Confidence - Smirk, take picture at a slightly-raised angle
I highly suggest a studio shot if you're new in your niche.
You want to give off a near-perfect first impression.
Then.... When you've become known in the community... You could take a selfie as a profile picture
...or even an NFT.
Start with professionalism
Next:
3/ Your Bio
This turns profile visitors into followers more than any other aspect of your positioning.
When someone comes to your profile... They have questions
Your bio has one job. To give answers.
What are the questions on their mind?
• Who are you?
• What are you doing?
• What have you done?
• What can you do for me?
This is why your bio needs to clearly explain these.
A screenshot of mine:
☝🏽 Let me that breakdown:
- Who am i:
Nascent Digital Writer
- What am i doing:
Building my income to $1M/year ( shows i'm ambitious right? )
- What can i do for you:
Follow me for tips on Audience building, Marketing & Self-Enhancememt
Make sense?
Lastly.... Its important to place a call to action on your bio.
On the website section of the bio to be specific.
I've gotten thousands of leads just by putting my link up there. You should too:
4/ Your Cover Photo
Its also called Header or background photo.
The name changes but the purpose remains the same.
The goal of your cover photo is to compliment the details of your bio.
At the time of writing... This is mine:
Your cover photo could have other variances:
~ A quote - one related to your niche
~ A picture you took in a crowd - with you at the centre. Social+
~ A clear shot of you speaking to a crowd. Authority+
~ A picture taken with an industry expert. Credibility+
5/ Pinned Tweet.
This is your first tweet!
This is the first piece of yourself you can offer to someone who visits your profile for the first time
It needs to be good. I mean.... Good!
Even if it means spending 10 hours on this one!
It should:
• ..have a good number of engagements on it.
• ..NOT be a promotional link (people didn't come to your profile - or social media in general - to buy stuff)
• ..NOT have to be your best tweet. It should be your best niche-related tweet
Here is Mine.. What do you think?
If you use these 5 things to the MAX...
You will convert more visitors to followers.
Many people mess this part up ...that's why many don't grow anyway
You reading up to this point reveals you're not one of many.
Lets move to the next phase!
𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮: 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
You've set up a good positioning ✅ ...but this isn't the end
You need to put yourself out there in order for people to see you ...and acknowledge you
4 ways which guarantee you a chance of getting more followers:
(1/4) Tweeting
This is the most basic thing on the app.
However... In order to get more visibility on your tweets... they need to be extremely good..
Good means
~ relatable
~ educative
People like what they love to see
People retweet what they believe in
Find what works for your audience ...and do well to drop a tweet every single day.
When most people ask me what my secret is...
I tell them.... "I show up everyday"
Truth is... I've been tweeting everyday since January 1st 🤷🏼‍♀
Yes. For over 250 days.
(2/4) - Engaging with other accounts
I mean Commenting
Commenting - when done right - becomes FREE advertising.
Its the strategy that takes most "NEW creators" to "BIG Creator status". Let me explain:
The goal of commenting is to add something valuable to a tweet.
This comment needs to be
• clear
• informative
• entertaining
• show authority
• ....or even have all of the above
A simple example of a good comment:
Your comment is bad when you send generic replies.
Ex:
• "🔥"
• "Value"
• "Amazing thread"
• "This was and eye-opener"
☝🏽 None of these are good.
Note: "If your comment cannot stand alone as a normal tweet, then it's not effective"
Now why are we doing this?
Our goal here is to attract people who view these comments ...to our profile ( without telling them to do so )
Depending on how good your comments are..
These could drive in potential followers for your profile
16 potential followers for example:
Imagine getting just 16 profiles visits per comment.
If you make 30 comments per day ....that's 16 × 30 = 480 profile visits
And if you apply the positioning tips ....you could bag somewhere around 37 as followers.
Doesn't that make you smile?
A tip to avoid tragedy:
Always comment under big accounts in your niche:
Two important elements:
i. Big account: Simply because they get more eyes on their comment sections. I advice to target accounts with 15k+ followers
Find active accounts in your niche
Follow them
Drop a quick quality comment
ii. In your niche: Please... Only engage with creators within your niche
There is nothing worse than attracting followers who will never engage with your content
A crypto kid wouldn't understand tweets from a web devs account
Focus on your niche for the best result
(3/4) Twitter spaces.
For a new creator... This is the fastest way to grow. I've tested.
Twitter spaces is a simple audio feature where you can tune in to either speak or listen to what is being said.
The main growth comes from when you are speaking.
You're placed at the top ....advertising your profile indirectly
And when people like what you preach ...your follow button is getting smashed
This is also because.... By hearing you speak... People are more compelled to be connected to you.
Try getting on some big spaces ...and request to speak.
Note: Only do this when you can contribute to the topic.
Do NOT request because you want to *gain followers*
Do so only when you have VALUE to offer
(4/4) Threads
Yes... Exactly what you're reading
Threads are effective for growth on Twitter.
Why?
The algorithm favours various features depending on the platform
• YouTube favours shorts & 7-min-videos
• Instagram favours reels
• Twitter favours THREADS
Threads also position you as an authority.
It takes hours of brain dumping to compile what you're reading 😩
But it comes with great rewards ...like more Followers to your name
( You'll most likely follow @francis_oleh after reading this.. right? Right?! 😐 )
Threads are effective when you have a certain number of followers
I do NOT advice to write them if you have less than 1000 followers
To me... Its like rehearsing for 3 hours to sing on a stage ...only to end up presenting to 3 people
Here are better things to do right now:
I recommend this routine for you:
Below 1000 followers
• No threads ...yet
• Tweet 3 times/day
• Comment 40 times/day
• Attend & speak on 3 spaces/week
Above 1000 followers
• Tweet 5 times/day
• Write 2 threads/week
• Comment 30-40 times/day
• Speak on 3-5 spaces/week
There you have it.... My "secret"
I implemented everything here every single day until the results were forced to bow down
Its going to keep getting better.
There is much room at the top ...see you there 🖤
What you need to grow like crazy on Twitter!
1. Positioning:
• Name
• Bio
• Profile Picture
• Cover photo
• Pinned tweet
2. Visibility Actions
• Engaging with others
• Speak on Spaces
