It's time to talk about mouthwash.
Do I need it?
What does it do?
Is it bad for me?
Can I use it every day?
What are the good brands?
Almost everyone uses mouthwash, mainly bc of good marketing. However, the marketing has created preferences even when there are bad ingredients
No one actually needs mouthwash. Plain and simple. It's fine to use as long as you're avoiding the following:
> Alcohol (oral cancer, dries out your mouth, wrecks microbiome)
> Chlorhexidine (prescription mouthrinse)
> Low pH (mouth rinses tend to be acidic)
> Colloidal silver
It's difficult to find a brand of mouthwash that is high pH, and w/o alcohol. Often times you can't even tell if a mouthwash is acidic based on taste alone.
These are the ingredients I like to see:
>Xylitol
>Essential oils
>Fluoride (HIGH caries risk only)
>Calcium
Let me reiterate, you don't need fluoride in mouthwash if you don't have cavities. Moving on, Xylitol is my favorite ingredient because it stimulates salivary flow, among a ton of other benefits and it's safe. Now here's a diagram covering the mouthwashes you guys submitted...
Let's recap
> you don't need mouthwash
> if you still want to use it make sure it's above 5.5 and no alcohol
> essential oils and xylitol freshen the mouth gently
> if you have bad breath, using mouthwash is like using Febreeze after you shit your pants. Buy a tongue scraper
