You’re not paid based on your HARD work.
You’re paid based on your SMART work.
I went from unemployed to Head of Growth in 7 years.
Here are 17 lessons to accelerate your career:
1) Cherish your time
Time isn't a thing, time is the ONLY thing
• Respect others time → Don't be late
• Respect your own time → Stop wasting it on things and people that don't make you feel or become better.
2) Surround yourself with Smart & Humble people
When you join an organization you have to choose your people:
• Choose complainers → You'll become one
• Choose go-getters→ You'll become one
→ Surround yourself with people smarter than you.
3) Say "no" often
• Whenever it doesn't align with your priorities → Say "no"
• Whenever you're short on time → Say "no"
• Whenever in doubt → Say "no"
4) Protect your sleep
Sleep & physical well-being represent +90% of your mental & physical performance.
→ Focus on your well-being to achieve & exceed your goals.
5) Stay consistent
It's not about the number of hours you put in.
It's about your focus on what truly matters.
→ Master skills and processes that will multiply your output.
6) Find a mentor
Your best bet is to find a mentor and a sponsor, someone with:
• Skills and experience
• Connections & influence
• Can facilitate decision making & not decide on your behalf
7) You can be the best & still make mistakes
Even if you're the best, ups & downs are fairly normal as long as the overall trend is up.
→ Stay confident
→ Don't get caught up in details.
→ Focus on the long-term trend of your performance.
8) Promote your work more
There is no shame in promoting your work. Don't count on anyone else to promote it for you:
• Create case studies for management
• Share learnings with your peers
• Teach it to your subordinates
9) Develop 'strategic incompetence'
If you hate doing something, let yourself suck at it.
If you're bad at what you hate → No one will ask you to do it
10) Learn to stack your skills
The world's elite aren't masters of just one skill.
They know how to combine skills to create superpowers.
→ Steve Jobs (Product design + Marketing + High Agency)
→ Jeff Bezos (Innovation+ Forward Thinking + Risk Taking)
11) Action your ideas to stand out
All people have the same ideas.
You never rise to the level of your ideas.
You fall to the level of your action.
→ Action your ideas to stand out.
12) Your reputation > Your skills:
Hard skills → Gets you hired
Soft skills → Gets you promoted
Your Reputation → Gets you your dreams
→ Protect your reputation at all costs.
13) Master the art identifying what is truly urgent
The “instant-response culture” created this constant "state of emergency".
→ Focus only on urgent and important items that align with your priorities.
14) ASK to GET
Opportunities come to those who ask for them:
• Learn to ask for what you want
• Train your brain that rejection is part of the process
15) Let go of control to gain control:
You gain more control by empowering others.
To boost relationships → Let others decide more, they’ll love it.
To boost teams → Give them authority, it’ll double their output.
16) Harness the power of Mental Models
Mental models will help you:
- Think clearly
- Solve problems
- Make better decisions
→ Learn mental models and put them to work
17) Appear smart in meetings
The smarter you appear → the more meetings you'll be invited to.
More meetings → more opportunities to shine & grow.
Do you want to get better at:
• Marketing
