Navaratri is an annual and one of the most revered Hindu festivals observed in the honour of Mother Goddess Durga. It spans over nine nights, first in the month of Chaitra and again in the month of Sharada

The word #Navaratri means 'nine nights' in Sanskrit, nava meaning nine and ratri meaning nights
March/April of the Gregorian calendar) and again in the month of Sharada. It is observed for different reasons and celebrated differently in various parts of the Hindu Indian cultural sphere.
Theoretically, there are four seasonal Navaratri.
The scientific reason behind fasting during Navratri is to detoxify your body. By eating light for a week or maybe once in a week, one is supposed to give digestive system a little rest. Nutritionist Claire told "fasting allows the gut to cleanse and strengthens its lining".
The nine forms of Maa Durga which is worshipped during Navratri Shailputri on Pratipada; Brahmacharini on Dwitiya; Chandarghanta on Tritiya; Kushmanda on Chaturthi; Skand Mata on Panchami; Katyayani on Shashthi; Kaalratri on Saptami; Mahagauri on Ashtami and Siddhidatri on Navami
Onion and garlic are taamsic in nature and it involves carnal energy in the body. Onions produce heat in the body and hence, should be avoided during Navratri fast. Garlic, on the other hand, is known as Rajogini. It is a substance that makes one lose grip over their instincts
In the eastern and northeastern states of India, the Durga Puja is synonymous with Navaratri, wherein goddess Durga battles and emerges victorious over the buffalo demon Mahishasur to help restore dharma.
In southern states, the victory of Durga or Kali is celebrated. In all cases, the common theme is the battle and victory of good over evil based on a regionally famous epic or legend such as the Devi Mahatmya.
