Black Women's Health
Little thread: I had a patient today who was a little elderly black woman. She was telling me that she really didn’t want to go to the hospital because her hair wasn’t done and she notices that yt doctors and nurse treat her differently when her hair is done vs. when it isn’t.
She was saying she feels like “she’s not taken seriously and treated like a crazy person” when her hair is all over the place. So I flat twisted her hair into a cute little style for her in the back of the ambulance while we were otw to the hospital.
She was so happy and she felt so much more confident about going to the hospital. I loveddd being able to do that for her. It was definitely a reminder of how deep medical racism is and how important representation of black people, ESPECIALLY black women is in healthcare.
We really need each other lol 🫶🏾
