My main issue with Trads is not that their views are “bigoted” as Libs might see them
Rather that there is no end to purity testing. It is a spiral. You can question everybody’s credentials by setting higher and higher standards
You finally end up with nobody who is pure enough
I can almost imagine a Platonic dialogue on this topic between Socrates and a Trad
Socrates will not dismiss the Trad but searchingly ask - “ who do you think is worthy of reciting the Shruti?”
I can imagine them tightening the criteria over their conversation
Dvija males -> Dvija males with initiation at the right age -> Dvija males who have done vedAdhyayana with a worthy teacher -> All of the above + one who does nityakarmas everyday and flawlessly etc etc
There is no end to this purity spiral .
You will eventually reach a point where nobody is eligible
The ideal is never realized. Everyone is brasht to some degree
I see this as a key weakness in all "primary" traditional religions
They are susceptible to purity test spirals. Where nobody really is good enough. Everyone looks down on everyone else
Abrahamisms in part succeeded by making belief primary and rules secondary
