Today, while being stuck in yet another traffic jam, my mind wandered to my sales days in random villages in the heart and heat of TN

It's a useful product & a major contributor to Wioro's consumer sales
Funny part is, Wipro wasn't supposed to be in this category. It belonged to someone else

Right from our childhood, we had a packet of Glucon D in our houses, for instant energy. So much so, that Glucon D is like the Xerox for glucose.
And Heinz, which owned the brand Glucon D, was minting money for a long long time.
Till Wipro came up with this innovation.

Logically speaking, all product lines related to Glucose belonged to Heinz. They could extend Glucon D to all types of Glucose and people would buy it, without question.
Such was the strength of the brand name.
They could've killed Glucovita Bolts in the crib, had they wanted

Maybe Heinz was overconfident.

And before they knew it, Glucovita Bolts started generating truckloads of money for Wipro Consumer Care
And started overtaking Glucon D

Which is when Heinz woke up and Belatedly, launched their competing product. Glucon D Volt.
But it was rejected by the people more severely than they rejected Shamshera
And as a Coup de grace, the Hyderabad Civil court, on a case by Wipro, barred Heinz from selling Volt.

Heinz, the international giant, bugged out of India by selling themselves to Zydus Wellness.

No matter how strong you are, how monpolistic your position is, how widespread your sales and distribution is, you can never rest on your laurels.
