Biological root causes of mental problems.
A thread on how you can use safe and effective tools in order to improve mental issues such as ADD, depression and anxiety.
*Standard disclaimer that this does not constitute medical advice*
More and more people in today’s society suffer from issues such as depression, anxiety, ADD, ADHD, OCD and psychological conditions.
Over the last 30 decades, there seems to be an illogical rise on them which
proves that there’s more than 1 thing which results in their appearance.
What we are going to do on this thread, is address some possible biological root causes (all of which are of equal importance) that can lead to mental suffering.
So let’s begin.
Cause 1: Lack of bioavailable protein.
Let's start with the basics.
The amino acids from bioavailable protein get converted to dopamine through certain cofactors and this greatly supports our mental well being.
Now don’t forget that the average person gets 30 grams of
bioavailable protein per day (50 tops) and that they want them to lower that amount even more.
This is insanity.
Without enough bioavailable protein all sorts of mental problems witll arise.
So in case that your experiencing depressive symptoms, making sure to get 3-5 small to
medium size meals a day with at least 30 grams of bioavailable protein on each depending on your weight, will greatly help you.
The best sources of bioavailable protein are: eggs, raw milk, meats paired with bone marrow or collagen and shellfish.
Cause 2: Poor metabolic health.
Then we need to address your metabolic health.
Depression a lot of times is nothing more than sign of poor metabolic health.
The solution to a problem a lot of times is way less complicated that you might think and you would be suprised by how
many people simply suffer from depression due to conversion problems.
In order to optimize your metabolic health you can start with this thread.
Cause 3: Adrenal fatigue
Your adrenal glands are endocrine glands located on top of your kidneys.
They produce many important hormones, including cortisol, aldosterone and adrenaline.
The adrenal hormones help regulate several bodily functions including metabolism, blood
pressure and your body's response to stress.
Now there's nothing wrong with stress if it is experienced for a short period of time.
The problem is that most people today have been under "medium" so to speak levels of stress for decades.
This is of course not normal and results
in mental problems.
First of all, increase your dietary intake of vitamin C from sources such as berries, acerolla cherries and even camu camu.
Under stress our adrenals dump vitamin C at a very intense rate and vitamin C is one of the pillars for a healthy endocrine system
and thus mental well being.
Then of coure do not be afraid of sea salt.
Stick to sea salt.
You can try Juliana's sea salt as well if you live in the states.
The other salts are either filled with inorganic iron or microplastics.
If you have not added oysters in your diet yet,
make sure that you do since a zinc deficiency can create and adrenaline excess by itself and this cause adrenal fatigue.
Also make sure to skip the 20 hours fasts every day and get 3 meals a day in.
(I had clients in real life as a PT who developed a panic attacks from
"fasting" with black coffee).
Of course since it's popular in this space, you can not expect to have healthy adrenals if you use shady nootropics.
Besides these there are 2 supplements that can help you with adrenal fatigue as well besides magnesium threonate.
Pregnenolone and DHEA
Pregnenolone is what is called the β€œmother hormone” and is the raw material for producing many of the steroid and protective hormones inlcuding progesterone.
Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a hormone that our bodies naturally produce mainly in the
adrenal gland and helps in the production of other hormones such as testosterone and progesterone.
If you are wondering about if you suffer from adrenal fatigue, signs of adrenal insufficiency may include:
Fatigue
Body aches
Skin discoloration (hyperpigmentation)
Unexplained weight loss
Low blood pressure
Lightheadedness
Loss of body hair
And also adrenal insufficiency can be diagnosed by blood tests and special stimulation tests that show inadequate levels of adrenal hormones.
Cause 4: Poort gut health.
I am sure that you are tired of reading about topics such as gut health and seed oils.
I understand that. I fully do.
But microbiota dysbiosis has been linked to major depressive disorder in more studies that we can count at this point.
For example segmented filamentous bacteria (SFB) deficient mice are resilient to the induction of depressive-like behavior.
Not only that but when they tried to induce learned helplessness in these rats by exposing them to some short of borderline inescapable situation, these
rats either escaped or gave up after lots and lots and lots of trials.
It’s really not rocket science.
SFB produces AI-2, SAA1 and SAA2 which increase Th17 cell production.
Why does this matter?
Because Th17 cells are required to promote depressive-like behaviors in the
first place.
So if you or even your kid since i’ve noticed that many parents follow me, are suffering from depressive symptoms, before popping some shady medication, make sure that you have tried at least to optimize your gut health.
Since there’s a limited amount of space that
we can use on each thread, here’s a full free guide on how to optimize gut health.
Cause 5: Excessive serotonin.
General symptoms that are linked with serotonin excess are the following:
-Fears and phobias.
-Generalized anxiety.
-Robotic obedience.
-Learned helplessness.
-Mood instability.
-Over analytical personality (stress sourced).
What can you do about this?
First, since most people are thiamine (vitamin B1) deficient to begin with, consider short term thiamine and small dose (50-100mg) of thiamine supplementation since a deficiency in thiamine increases serotonin production.
Another great tool is ginkgo
biloba which can normalize elevated catecholamine and lower serotonin.
Then, glycine can help mitigate the excess tryptophan and aid in serotonin clearance as well.
Foods that you can use to help with a serotonin excess are:
1)Ginger which will lower serotonin receptivity in
the gut.
2)Blackseed oil which can lower serotonin uptake from the gut.
3)Carrots for the fibers tol bind to excessive estrogen, but only if your gut health is decent-ish.
These 6 are very simple and very effective tools.
Cause 6: Nutritional deficiencies
The most common nutritional defciencies that lead to mental problems are:
1)Magnesium
2)B vitamins
3)Vitamin D
4)Inositol
5)Zinc
6)Choline
7)L carnitine
Most of these can be found in animal products but B vitamins are sensitive to heat and
for this reason it's always a good idea to slonk the egg yolks (the yolks, not the whites) and not over cook your red meat.
Now when it comes to magnesium and inositol, a lot of people will benefit from their supplementation.
Cause 7: Low testosterone for men and estrogen dominance for women.
Here are 2 guides for each.
Yes i know that you're tired reading testosterone threads but this one is different, i promise.
Cause 8: Harmed glucose metabolism
I am not an advocate of low carb lifestyles (not short term diets, lifestyles) so in case your glucose metabolism is not optimal, before going carnivore, ask yourselves the following questions:
1)Which are my carb sources?
If they are not fruit and honey maybe i need to rethink my choices.
2)I am out of the sun and what's my vitamin D status.
3)Am i lifting?
4)Am i using nitric oxide products? (it's not a good think to use them).
5)Am i sleeping 7.5-9 hours a day?
6)Do i have enough B vitamins in my system?
Make sure to address these first before even considering going carnivore.
Cause 9: Undiagnosed allergies
A lot of people actually spend their entire lives eating foods that they are/become allergic to.
When you have the oppurtunity,
go and take a basic allergy test.
You might be able to reverse some but for now you should know if there's something that you should avoid.
Cause 10: Lack of saturated fats
Saturated fat is a fundamental building block for brain cells.
Also, cholesterol is vital for a well-functioning brain since it functions as a brain-protective antioxidant.
So ditch the bad fats such as canola oil and stick to quality saturated fats such as animal fats, coconut oil and some EVOO.
Check why here:
That's it.
These were 10 common biological causes that lead to mental problems.
Other ones could of course be lack of sunlight and movement, nnEMF and alcohol.
But for now address these 10 for at least 4 weeks and see if you feel better.
