‘I can bet my last dollar, nothing is going to change’.
These are the utterances of Mr. Jimi Disu, shared this morning on Nigerian Info about the coming elections in Lagos state.

I would consider it a fair assessment to interpret an authoritative pronouncement like this from a member of the press as an attack on democracy.
But even worse than his pessimism are the allegations made by Mr. Disu that the defection of the Lagos4Lagos movement and my decision to run for office under the aegis of the PDP has ‘divided’ the party in Lagos & weakened our structures.
As evidence to back his outlandish allegations, Mr. Disu mentions that the APC in Lagos has not bothered to campaign for the 2023 elections, suggesting that a second term has already been promised and delivered to Sanwo-olu.
He goes even further to parrot gossip that my candidacy is an elaborate ploy to weaken the PDP and clear the path for the APC, with no other evidence other than his ‘gut feeling’.
Mr. Disu’s words betray his true nature or has he joined the league of those who openly criticise the hegemony of APC government in Lagos State, but often times, in every election year, do everything to undermine the winning chances of PDP in …
…. Lagos with their platforms (believe me we have one of such persons at the very top echelon of Lagos PDP Leadership), having used same platforms to win majority of Lagosians on their side under the guise of being on the side of the people.
I don’t want to believe my Egbon has suddenly turned an instigator who benefits from the present system , and feels no need to hold himself to any standards of journalistic integrity.
With this morning's submission of Uncle Jimi Disu, it appears he is neither concerned that the incumbent governor has made no effort to assess his perfomance over …
…. the last three and half years nor worried that the incumbent is not running for a second term to correct any failings and serve with even more integrity.
He doesn't bother to demand better of the present government or even engage constructively with the candidates and campaigns of the opposition parties. Instead, he peddles rumours, passes off personal opinion as verifiable facts & attacks the legitimacy of opposition candidates.
The Lagos4Lagos movement has taken 7 years and countless hours of efforts from volunteers and stakeholders to build. Our governorship campaign has been comprehensive, grassroots focused and extensively documented.
Mr. Disu remains ignorant about us and the work we have done because it benefits him to do so, to pretend there is no contest because a dysfunctional government keeps people like him relevant and their pockets lined.
I would advise Mr. Disu to avoid libellous statements going forward, and make better use of the platform he has, people are watching and it would be unfortunate if he ended up on the wrong side of progress.
