Most people on Twitter want to write daily.
Sadly, they fail every time.
I started daily writing 102 days ago.
Since then, I have written at least 1000 words every day.
7 habits that will help you write daily:
1. Set up fixed intervals
For most people, writing isn't the only thing they do.
They write because they WANT to write, not because they NEED to write.
There are 100s of factors affecting these wants.
Most of them are out of our control.
Many people miss this technicality.
They end up replacing their long-term want (writing) with something else like watching a show or playing with friends.
Setting up fixed routines would give you a non compromisable time that is fixed for writing only
Here's a routine that works for all:
2. Keep a pen & paper near your bed
If you went through the framework, you already know the best time to write is:
Just after you wake up.
Just when you are about to sleep.
In this case, you would need a pen & notebook near your bed.
But if you are choosing any other time, just make sure that a pen and paper are available to you at most moments.
If you are someone like me who doesn't like typing on mobile, I'd recommend you to keep a small notepad by your side.
Just write whenever you feel like writing.
3. Fill your pages with ideas
Starting with a blank page is always a bad idea.
That's why, whenever you get an idea, just write it at the top of some page.
This way you will never have to start from the idea and you'll always have something to write about.
4. Draw or Doodle ideas
Doodling or drawing significantly impacts our understanding of ideas.
It also helps us stick to the page and not start wondering about the complexities of the world when we are just writing about Mangoes.
Highly recommended for unstable humans like me.
5. Find a writing partner
Writing for most people is just an exchange of ideas.
Ideas need dialogue to strengthen & grow.
Dialogue requires the need of more than 1 individual.
Your writing partner can be your friend, your mentor, and even your audience.
A writing partner is anything that can provide you with feedback on your thoughts.
If you'd like me to be your writing partner, shoot me a DM.
We'll see how things go.
Your writing partner would push you to become a better writer every day.
So, choose wisely.
6. Gather different experiences
We are very limited in what we can write about.
It's either what we observe, what we hear, or what we see.
In short, what we experience!
To become a good writer, you need to experience different things.
Go out.
Meet new people.
Find interesting people on Twitter.
Hop on a call with them.
Try to understand their way of life.
Try to see your life with their way of thinking.
Find alternate perspectives.
That's how you become a great writer.
7. Consume great fiction
Talking. Connecting. Hoping on a call.
All these things are possible with the living.
But a fictional character can teach you much more about life than normal people ever would.
This is the guy who has inspired me the most.
He doesn't even exist!!!
Find great works of fiction.
Connect with the characters on the deepest level possible.
Laugh. Cry.
Lose. Win.
Live another life while watching/reading these stories.
Become a part of their world.
See our world through their lens.
Write about it.
So, 7 habits to help you write daily:
• Set up fixed intervals
• Keep pen & paper with you
• Fill your pages with titles
• Draw/Doodle
• Find a writing partner
• Gather different experiences
• Consume great fiction
