There's a whole generation of pseudointellectuals who have been rewarded for responding not to arguments their perceived opponents made, but to arguments they *feel* they made. Berlatsky stands out only because he's older and more cartoonishly transparent than the rest of 'em.
This tells you everything you need to know about Berlatsky. Other slippery writers at at least deft enough that they can fool people. He attracts disproportionate attention because he's so bad at misrepresentation
