Grapes!
The season for grapes is here!
Grapes are full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They’re also full of water, which can help keep you hydrated.
A short thread🧵 on the benefits of grapes👇
🍇 Rich in Antioxidants
Grapes are a source of natural compounds including polyphenols, catechins and anthocyanins.
As well as providing the pigment to determine the colour of the grape, these compounds have protective antioxidant properties.
🍇Heart health
Grapes provide both fibre& potassium, which r helpful in their support of heart function including BP
The polyphenols in grapes including resveratrol&quercetin r also thought to benefit the cardiovascular system, protecting it from inflammatory& oxidative damage.
🍇Eye health
The antioxidant compounds in grapes, such as resveratrol as well as two fat-soluble carotenoids called lutein and zeaxanthin are protective against the UV light which can damage the delicate cells of the eye.
Lutein&zeaxanthin are especially useful as they protect the macula of the eye from the effects of blue light from devices like mobiles and tablets.
🍇Brain health
Eating grapes may boost memory and brain health
Resveratrol, The powerful antioxidant helps reduce oxidative stress, which can have a positive effect on your brain.
🍇For diabetics
These are naturally occurring sugars as opposed to ‘free’ sugars, when grapes are eaten in their whole form, you don’t need to worry about cutting down on them.
The natural compounds in grapes, like resveratrol, have a beneficial effect on blood sugar management
Grapes also have a low Glycemic index.
You can consume about 17-20 small grapes, or 1 small bowl as a snack option.
What’s most important is that you choose an option closest to its natural form, So instead of drinking grape juice, the original, unprocessed grape is where you’ll get the most nutrition.
🍇Constipation Relief
The high water content in grapes can help your digestive system run more smoothly. Grapes are also full of insoluble fiber, which can lead to softer stools.
