1. TM has clarified that the KL Tower is owned by the government, and its wholly owned subsidiary Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd had been operating the tower under a concession.
The group decided in October 2021 that it would not renew the concession and informed the government.
2. It says this was after due consideration on the change of MKL's business nature, from telco services to tourism and hospitality.
The concessionaire selection process was then taken up by Putrajaya in 2022, and TM was informed of the company that will takeover MKLSB's shares.
3. "MKLSB shall continue to operate the concession and ensure the continuity of MKL operations for the Malaysian public, including international visitors.
"Employees will remain employed with MKLSB under the new Concessionaire for a minimum period of 3 years."
4. TM also noted that it made a reference to the changes to MKLSB's shareholding in its Q3 financial results.
This can be found on Bursa Malaysia's website for company announcements.
TM assures that it practices good governance and transparency in its business undertakings.
5. Earlier, former communications minister Annuar Musa told Malaysiakini that his ministry had nothing to do with the deal, and TM did not need his permission to transfer its shares.
Current minister Fahmi Fadzil also called for a probe into the deal.
