91% of people never succeed in their New Year’s Resolutions.
Here are 5 simple tips I use to turn a resolution into a habit that sticks:
1. Eat the Frog
This means you do the toughest thing first.
The thing you don’t want to do is the first thing you do every morning.
Get your task out of the way.
Then you can carry on the rest of your day without that task on your mind all day.
You already did it. It’s done.
Now you don’t have to worry about it.
2. Stepping Stones
Set small goals.
You can’t accomplish your main goal in a week, or a month, or maybe even a year.
So you need smaller goals to actively be working towards that will ultimately contribute to your larger goal.
These smaller goals should be stackable.
So you should have a monthly goal, a weekly goal, and a daily goal.
All of which contribute to the next.
This keeps you on track, and able to see the progress.
3. Make it Fun
There is no point in doing something you hate.
This is awful for your mental health.
So find a way to make it all enjoyable.
There is so much variance in the world.
If your goal is working out, find a routine you like.
If it’s eating healthy, find unique recipes you’ll enjoy.
There’s more than one way to skin a cat.
4. Make it a Priority
Whatever you want to accomplish should not be considered a “nice to have”
If it’s not a priority it will never stick.
You will eventually quit because it’s not important to you.
Sacrifices will need to be made.
But if this is important to you, then it will be worth it.
You may not be able to have as much “fun” as you used to (partying, drinking, and all that BS).
It’s time to grow up and do something worthwhile.
5. Fake it
You are not the person you want to be.
You don’t currently have what you want.
So fake it.
You need to be practicing the type of person you want to be.
A common phrase is “fake it til you make it”
I say “fake it til you become it”
We all suffer from imposter syndrome.
But eventually you realize that you know what you’re doing.
Just keep faking it, then one day you’ll realize you have become it.
