10 months ago, nobody knew who I was.
Since I started sharing on social:
-I've launched a killer side biz
-Funneled tons of new biz to my agency
-Added meaningful connections to my network
-& massive companies have tried to poach me
Here's how to get results & make an impact:
First, a personal brand isn't for everyone.
You don't need one.
If you choose to go down this path, it will be a ton of work.
I personally feel it's worth it, but who cares what I think.
Go with your gut.
Let's get to it:
🔹 Know why you're posting & who you're speaking to
The best content has a purpose.
It speaks directly to a known audience and is:
-Helpful
-Engaging
-Relevant
If you aren't sure, you can find your 'why' by paying attention to what sticks.
Experiment to find your groove.
But if you need more help, follow @ABetterJones
She's the master at helping people learn how to curate a POV that sets them apart from the crowd.
And, generate ideas that align with your "why" and your audience's "so what?"
🔹 Show up as you
Nobody else is you.
Sounds simple, but it's easy to lose your voice in a sea of templated tips.
Let your personality out. Add your unique flare. Take a stance for or against something.
I give content tips, but I'm also anti-hustle porn & tell terrible jokes.
🔹 Write an attention-grabbing hook
People want to know:
-Why they should care
-How it will help them
-What they will learn
A bad hook isn't specific & leaves nothing up to the imagination.
Poke at pain points, light up emotions, add social proof, & build intrigue.
More on great hooks:
🔹 Pay attention to structure
How you organize ideas matters as much as what you're saying.
The reader needs to move through a logical journey.
There are tons of formats to choose from, e.g.:
-Stories
-Lists
-How-to's
Your content purpose drives the structure...
Telling a story? You won't need headers (like I'm using today).
Sharing tips/expertise? In this case, headers help readers navigate & digest what you're saying.
Study successful creators and pay attention to the various formats they use.
Here's one I return to often:
🔹 Project confidence
Confidence is magnetic.
The more assured you sound, the more assured your audience will feel.
Avoid self-deprecating posts if possible.
❌ "Nobody is following me back and it's sad."
✅ "I'm growing slowly, but my connections are fire."
🔹 Engage with others
Leave interesting comments on other posts.
Don't be Generic Gerry.
I personally like to have fun. The more fun I have, the more I'll enjoy being here.
It also helps me stand out.
This one was a personal fave:
Hope you found this helpful!
Quick TLDR:
🔹 Know why you're posting & who you're speaking to
🔹 Show up as you
🔹 Write an attention-grabbing hook
🔹 Pay attention to structure
🔹 Project confidence
🔹 Engage with others
