Buddhist Stupas and caves in India that you should know ๐Ÿงต
1.Sanchi Stupa: located in the state of Madhya Pradesh, the Sanchi Stupa is one of the oldest and most well-preserved Buddhist stupas in India.
It was built during the reign of Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE.
2.Dhamek Stupa: located in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, the Dhamek Stupa is believed to be the spot where the Buddha gave his first sermon
Mahabodhi Temple: located in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, the Mahabodhi Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is believed to be the spot where the Buddha attained enlightenment.
Ajanta Caves: located in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, the Ajanta Caves are a series of rock-cut caves that contain some of the most beautiful and well-preserved examples of Buddhist art and architecture.
Kaneri caves: located in the state of Maharashtra, Kaneri caves are ancient rock cut caves, dating back to 1st century BC, which house stupas and rock cut sculptures.
Ratnagiri Stupa: located in the state of Odisha, the Ratnagiri Stupa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that contains some of the best examples of ancient Buddhist art and architecture in India.
Boudhanath Stupa:(not in India) Located in Kathmandu, Nepal, Boudhanath Stupa is one of the largest stupas in South Asia. It is an important pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhists.
