Do not be fooled by any deviant who uses the agreed-upon descent and return of al-Masīh ‘Isā Ibn Maryam عليه السلام as an excuse to justify his deviant Kufr-i belief in a false claimant of Prophethood after the final Messenger and the greatest of creation ﷺ. 🧵
The meaning of our saying: There will be no Prophets after Sayyidunā Rasūlullāh ﷺ is that there will be no new Prophethood, not that there will no longer be *existing* Prophets in the universe, let alone Prophets alive on earth.
As such, the life of al-Masīh, or al-Khidr, or Ilyās عليهم السلام (according to the opinion that they are alive) does not contradict with what is agreed upon by every Muslim that there will be no Prophet after the Messenger ﷺ.
That is because their Prophethood happened in the past, so them being alive now does not contradict with Khatm of Nubuwwah since there is no new Prophethood.
Some weak alternative argument said by some is:
‘Isā عليه السلام comes as a follower of Rasūlullāh ﷺ.
Now even if this is correct, it is not exact and it can be used by some deviants to argue for Prophethood of their mini-Dajjāl.
Some statements of scholars:
al-Tahāwī (d. 321) said:
"Every claim of Prophethood after his Prophethood ﷺ is deviance and misguidance."
al-Ghaznawī (d. 773) said:
"For it is established in definitive texts that he ﷺ is the final Messenger, and that there is no Prophet after him."
Sharh al-Tahāwiyyah
‘Abd al-Salām Ibn al-Laqqānī (d. 1078) said:
"Describing him [ﷺ] by “the final [Messenger]” means that there is no Prophet who's Prophethood will begin after him ﷺ."
Ithāf al-Murīd
al-Amīr al-Kabīr (d. 1232) said:
"[‘Abd al-Salām's] saying: (no new beginning of Prophethood) excludes ‘Isā, since his Prophethood started before, and he will come as a follower to our Prophet ﷺ."
Hāshiyat al-Amīr ‘alā Ithāf al-Murīd
al-Sāwī (d. 1241) said:
"(The final [Messenger]) meaning: The last of them, who came as the final Prophet, like in the Hadīth: I am the final [Prophet] for there is no Prophet after me.
Which means: No new Prophethood will be started, which does not contradict the descent of-
-Sayyidunā ‘Isā عليه السلام in the end times, nor does it contradict the existence of al-Khidr and Ilyās عليهما السلام until today."
Hāshiyat al-Sāwī ‘alā Jawharat al-Tawhīd
al-Bājūrī (d. 1276) said:
His saying: (the final [Messenger]) is a characteristic to Muhammad (ﷺ)..
..like in the Hadīth: I am the final [Prophet] for there is no Prophet after me.
Which means: No new Prophethood, which does not contradict the descent of ‘Isā عليه السلام-
-and the existence of al-Khidr and Ilyās عليهما السلام."
Hāshiyat al-Bājūrī ‘alā Jawharat al-Tawhīd
As you can see, the understanding of Ahl al-Sunnah makes it impossible for a Dajjāl to claim Prophethood after Sayyidunā Muhammad ﷺ.
