Marcos Alonso is the most disrespected Barca player ever. Fans did not want him, and therefore judge him by his flaws rather than his strengths. Him succeeding against Real Madrid is beautiful.
A friendly reminder that he was played out of position - centre back. He played against last season’s Champions League & La Liga winner away from home, and had to face the current Ballon d’Or holder. According to the rating app Fotmob, he was man of the match.
Deserved? There were many standout performers. However, Marcos Alonso didn’t put a foot wrong: • 80% aerial duels won
• 8 headed clearances
• 10 clearances Rock solid, and no….
… we don’t expect him to perform like prime Maldini. Adjust your expectations and it’s easier to appreciate a player like him. He is good, and he isn’t here to be a starter in the biggest games unless it’s needed. He is here as a part of a process.
A player who can step in for our regular starters in smaller games, allowing rotations which prevents injuries. We need players that don’t mind being backups and can handle multiple positions.
