In 1893, during the World fair of Chicago, the first council of world religions occurred in the west. Organized by a Swedenborgian on September 11, 1893, it is considered the beginning of the world wide interfaith movement.
Religious leaders from every denomination imaginable was invited to the event. (Mormons notably absent, Masons were probably still pissed about them gyping their rituals). The merging of the religions of the east with those of the west. This was the beginning of something world…
This was the beginning of religious syncretism in the west, the idea that all faiths had truth in them, that they all came from the same source.
The congress of world religions was supposed to represent the bonding of east and west, the conjoining of opposites in a productive way, the birth of the idea that the whole world could bond in brotherhood.
The defining event of the congress, was a speech by Swami Vivekananda.

108 years to the day after the first congress of world religions, September 11, 1893, two planes would come from the religious east, destroying the World Trade Center.
The joining of east and west in fraternal progress, would be shattered by the supposed religious animosity of an eastern faith.
To add to the “coincidences” binding the World Trade Center and the 1893 council, is that the first time the council would meet again would be 100 years later in 1993. Coincidentally, that same year the WTC would be bombed.
