I spent 3 months practicing video editing and doing lots of outreach
I wanted to make my first money online but got ZERO results
... until recently I closed my first client and we have already agreed on 3 months of work minimum
Here's how this happened
👇👇👇
I started sending cold e-mails on January 21
My service at the moment was short-form content
(This wasn't the best choice because it is a hell to compete with other short-form creators nowadays)
This was my first ever cold e-mail:
As you can see, I have made A LOT of mistakes here:
1) Too long
2) Too vague
3) Not enough expertise
4) No particular benefits
And wasn't sending those e-mails too often because I was still learning and sending them was mostly just to get the habit of sending them
The more I learned, the more e-mails I sent
I still wasn't doing enough volume tho
I could send 5-10 e-mails a day and then don't send any for a few days
。No wonder I got ZERO replies
But my skills of editing were slowly getting better and better
I was experimenting with different outreach scripts, but nothing seemed to be working
Then I got a reply from Theo Von saying "If you send us some examples - we will consider"
I was excited
I postponed all of my tasks just to make 3 shorts for Theo
Those were my 3 best shorts at the time
I was incredibly proud of them and thought:
"This is the moment. Damn"
I sent those shorts to him and got NO response
I followed up -> nothing. Again
It felt painful
Well, at least it was a new experience
I kept sending those e-mails, but it was all hopeless
That's why I decided to start sending cold DMs on Instagram
First, I was basically sending the same script as with e-mail (it was dumb as hell)
Then, I started trying to build rapport first and only then pitch my service. I was getting replies, but once I started pitching I got ignored
There were a few guys who seemed to be interested and we even agreed to make a few vids, but then they just disappeared
I even had a story when the guy said to me that my strategy sucks🤣
It felt painful, but I needed to hear that
And then I tried a new strategy that was a mix of different strategies
Here's how it looks:
My new strategy got me a few replies
One of those replies was from my current client
At first, he didn't agree
But then I proposed to make him 1 YT video and 3 shorts for free, as @Akash_Gfx told me (thanks, brother)
He ended up liking my work a lot
In fact, one of my shorts 10x-ed the views he was getting before
But it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows
One day I take a look at his channel and see a new video with a similar editing style to mine
But much worse. The video really looked bad
I thought this was the end, he found someone else
I lost hope, but we still had a scheduled call in a few days
The call also was messed up (in my opinion)🤣
I wasn't professional enough and the client didn't seem interested
We have agreed that he will try another editor from Fiverr and then he will make his final decision
It sounds awful, right?
I thought the same, I didn't even hope for anything
But then.. I get a message saying that instead of hiring someone from Fiverr he wants to work with me
I can't describe how happy I was
。"I am going to make my first money online. DAaaamn"
。"The real fun will begin now"
。"The hardest part is done"
...were my thoughts
I literally couldn't fall asleep because of the excitement (really, I couldn't fall asleep for 2 hours😂)
In the morning, I send him my PayPal, he sends me money and a smile appears on my face
The realization that I made my first money online hit me
I was beyond grateful
I've been working for 3 months straight to get to this point
There was a point when I questioned whether what I do even had any sense
Doubts crippled my mind
I thought that I'm hopeless
It was tough
But here I am now, I signed my first client
My hard work paid off
I did well
I am proud
This is just the beginning
I will grow and get more and more video editing clients
There's still a huge way to go
I have a goal to make $10k by the end of the year, not $10k a month, but $10k in the entire year
And doors just got opened
Time for some advice:
1) Do lots of outreach
2) Create a brand so that you may have inbound clients in the future
3) Provide free value and give more than expected
4) Keep experimenting
5) Don't stop, you may be only 1 DM from getting the client
That's a wrap! Thank you for taking the time to read this thread
If you want to reach more people and make money out of it - feel free to schedule a call with me. The link is in the bio
