Khanda Symbol was formalized during the Raj of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, as seen in the first bronze coin from the early 1800’s from a Sikh mint.
Earlier coins from Mughal era, as far back as 17th century were later retroactively restamped to assert Sikh hegemony w/o mints.
The idea that the modern Khanda was made recently is completely inaccurate.
It’s a symbol of Sikh power from the 18th-early 19th century.
