The bill that holds Biafrans and other territories in Nigeria today was signed an Igbo man. Nnamdi Azikwe in 1963, before then Nigerian practice regional government system, but it was abolished by Azikwe.
Tafawa Balewa and Awolowo was against it because of the diversity in culture and language yet Azikwe proceed to heed with his wish and dreams of ruling over Africa.
After the 1966 coup d'etat led by Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu and Emmanuel Ifeajuna (both Igbo) which claims the life of the president tafa balewa, premier of the northern region Ahmadu Bello also known as Sadauna of Sokoto & Western region leader Samuel akintola
sparing only the life of the south east leader Michael Opara and was carried out at the absence of Nnamdi Azikwe and the man who was meant to defend them Agunyi ironsi (same Igbo) didn't act until all these people were killed.
Ironsi was made Head of State, got into power and signed bill proposed by his fellow Prof Nwabueze to nationalize Nigerian land including it resources meaning all land resources belongs to the gov.
he also refused to kill any of the coup member which makes it obvious the coup was planned by the Igbo to take over Nigeria.
Nationalising the land resource in Nigeria was a disadvantage to regions like Niger Delta were oil was first discovered _ since they couldn't farm and this oil was there only way to abolish poverty, Isaac Adaka Boro went to create his own Republic of Niger Delta.
He also created his own militant, but Ironsi declare war against them & they were defeated with the help of Col. Ojukwu, Isaac was charged for treason & was in prison awaiting prosecution.
Lt col Murtala plotted a counter coup to kill all the Igbo in power, the man who hosted Agunyi Ironsi during the coup period (Adekunle Fajuyi, same Yoruba they claimed hates them) had to pay with his life so his General, Agunyi Ironsi won't be killed under his roof.
they ended up killing both of them and also led to the death of almost all Ndi Igbo in the northern Nigeria, Yakubu Gowon was made the head of state. Few months after the coup, the Ndi-Igbo couldn't have power of over their resources cos of the same bill proposed
by Nwabueze and signed by Ironsi and these wouldn't favour them as they were no Igbo in power and the Northerners had dominated high ranks of the Nigerians armies. They couldn't bear it and call for an accord which took place at aburi, Ghana.
Gowon accept their terms at the meeting to giving them power over there resources and ruling equity returning Nigeria to Regional governmental system, Gowon came back to Nigeria he couldnt yield to promises of the accord cos the Nigerian senate House including
top military heads opposed it and said Nigerian would not always bend to accommodate the wish of the Ndi Igbo followed by Isaac Adaka Boro letter to Gowon,telling him the Igbo can't eat there cake and have it, Ojukwu & Ironsi stopped the Niger Delta republic for one Nigeria.
it must remain one Nigeria, They made the law and now let them bear it. They wouldn't have take this from another tribe if they were the one in power, and it wouldn't have matters to them if there brothers were allow to continue ruling.
They started building their own weapon and also having supplies from France who was interested in extending the domain across West Africa state. And the same man that helped ironsi stopped the republic of Niger Delta announced Biafra as an independent country on May 30, 1967.
Gowon released Isaac Adaka Boro & made him a General, Isaac went ahead to recruit his fellow militants into Nigerian army. The Biafrans started displacing people from there homes in nearby villages and towns in Niger Delta domain and asking them to succumb their land & resources

Few months later after they felt they've grown stronger, they strike again at Ore with a troop led by Col. Banjo a Yoruba man, captured Benin city displacing people from there home within less than a day with an attempt to capture David Ejor (widwest Gov)
so they could surrender their lands to the Biafrans. ejor was able to escape & fled Lagos, & Benin was established as a Biafra last but it only lasted for 24hrs. The matched 300km SW in a bid to liberate Lagos according to them.
Nigerian Govt summoned the Scorpion squad led by Murtala Muhammad & Ben Adekunle to reclaimed the settlements back from the biafrans. They were also counter to move out from the acclaimed midwest region they claimed by conquest and dominated despite it not being part of Biafra
which is translated as Asaba Massacre today. After their lose Ojukwu accused Banjo of plotting a coup to kill him due to their dispute on who would rule as Midwest Gov after they capture Benin, Banjo was executed after 2nd trial without any evidence.
That was when Awolowo saw their real color and agenda, adviced Yakubu Gowon to cut all food supply to the SE. You can't form a rebel against a country and rely on them for food. Why should we continue feeding our enemies? SE have arable lands.
Yet they've been struggling to utilize there farms since forever, Bishop ajayi Crowder wrote about the hunger and farming in their land for as far back as 1800s due to their poor farming innovation & their lack of interest. An issue which they're yet to solve till date.

All food supply was cut. And the children of Biafrans were made to starve, relying on food from the French aids and also raiding nearly villages mostly Idoma, ebira & Ighala land, bully them to get there farm produce since Nigeria has change its money
and they money they were holding were valueless and they couldn't negotiate food supply from nearby territories. Same as the Vikings did against the English in 7th century, except the Vikings wasn't trying that against a country 12x bigger than them.
Leaders from this territories seek aid from the Nigerians government, they were warned to surrender if they don't have the capacity to go on with their plan instead of forming rebel and threat to the citizens of our country Nigeria. But they refused.
