Reading this passage from Dr. Mary’s Monkey immediately reminded me of Jim Jones who used to sell monkeys “door to door” in the 40’s/50’s and specifically the idea that Jonestown was a CIA medical experiment. It’s not so crazy to me that he’d be promoted to humans. But…
This is really funny to me - not this part but later. Jonestown had a chimp named Mr. Muggs that Jones adopted. It was later among the dead at the (😵💫) clean up operation.
This is what makes me laugh. There was a venue in Ypsilanti that I played a lot when I was a teen called Mr. Muggs and no one knew why it was called that. Some said “coffee shop” but they didn’t sell coffee. Wonder if it was named after a Jonestown chimp. Why?
