1/7) The fear of losing your loved one or the fear of being left behind - a tale
I went grocery shopping with my nephew who is hardly 3 years old. While I was shopping, he constantly begged for an ice-cream. Despite knowing that it could make him sick, I gave in and got him one.
2/7) On our way back, while I was waiting outside a tandoor, my nephew was enjoying his icecream "thank you bubo, thank you bubo" he expressed after every single bite. I don't know what happened that he suddenly went out of control & started running down the street, crying loudly
3/7) I followed him, tried to catch him, but he was too fast. I was so worried about his safety on the road and the way he was crying & running impatiently. I then noticed that there was a woman who he was chasing who was also running so fast (but she was going home that way).
4/7) He probably mistook this woman as me and got overwhelmed by this fear of being left behind & left alone. Eventually, when he realized that he cannot do anything about it, he stopped by an old lady, couldn't say a word as he was crying, could only point at that woman.
5/7) That is when I caught him, held his hand, consoled him "Here I am, that woman isn't your bubo, its ok". I then took him home but he continued crying the same way despite his parents tried to calm him down. Later, I asked him why he ran & he said he thought I had left him.
6/7) To me, this reassured the power of love, that can make us so afraid of losing some1 that we'll do anything to keep them close. This boy experienced this fear at such a young age (though by mistake), but the incident made me reflect on my life. I recalled many incidents....
7/7) & came to this realization that no one in my entire life ever expressed the fear of losing me or being left behind the way this little boy did. He almost lost me - his loved one - at such a young age.
I haven't yet gotten over the idea of separation this boy experienced.
