A Chinese gives birth to a son, raises him with his language, sends him to school to learn English and others.
A Nigerian Igbo gives birth to a son, raises him with queen's English, sends him to school to learn more English and others.
The two children travel abroad for
greener pasture, meet each other and become friends. The Igbo boy is fascinated with his friend's language, food, dressing and culture in general and excitedly learns his friend's language and learns about his culture too. The Chinese boy does not learn anything from his Igbo
friend who neither knows his language nor his culture.
The Chinese goes back to China and tells stories about his wonderful Nigerian Igbo friend and nothing more. The Igbo boy comes back to Nigeria, tells stories of his wonderful Chinese friend, intimidates his peers with the
Chinese he has learned as a way of showing he has left the shores of Nigeria. His friends in turn pick one or two Chinese from him and go off to show other friends that they have a friend who knows Chinese.... The cycle continues and the Chinese language continues to spread but
none of them can speak their own mother tongue.
Had the Igbo boy learnt his language from his father, he would have exported 'bแป‹a' or 'nnแปแป' at the least to China through his Chinese friend and to other parts of the world that he will visit at later times.
It costs you
nothing to raise your child with your mother tongue. Cultural diversity makes the world beautiful.
Kuziere nwa gแป‹ asแปฅsแปฅ Igbo!
