1) Never lose sight of the goal:
The only way to win in chess is to check mate the King. Nothing else.
The moment you lose sight of the goal?
You have no advantage over your opponent whatsoever.

Make sure everything you do is leading you towards your main goal.

2) Have control over your emotions:
I have been in numerous situations while playing chess where I had a good chance to win...
But I messed up my plans. And lost the game because I was too excited.

You need to be a master of your emotions if you want to have control over every situation you find yourself.

In the game of chess. It is essential to anticipate your opponent's moves.
You can either block your opponent's moves or you use it to your advantage.
