If the Prophet ﷺ wrote the Quran, how did he ﷺ know that early versions of the 7 sleepers story don't agree on the number of sleepers?
🔸The Jews & the Christians of Najran say 3 [1]
🔸The East Syriac Church says 5 [1]
🔸Most Syriac accounts have 8 [2,3]
Keep in mind that Surat al-Kahf (#18 The Cave) was revealed in Mecca, where there were no Jewish or Christian communities.
So, who told the Prophet ﷺ that the different versions of the story report different number of sleepers?!

And even if the Hadeeth was Saheeh, it doesn't include anything about a dispute over how many they were.
So the question still remains, how did the Prophet ﷺ know:
1⃣ There was a dispute over their number?!
2⃣ The numbers reported in the different versions of the story?
