This person's og tweet was dumb but a lot of the responses here show how political discourse in East Asia is at cross purposes with discourses on here by Westerners-ie its Japanese progressives who opposed military bases on Okinawa who most strongly emphasize Japanese war crimes

the Pacific War. Okinawan leftists in particular emphasize their distinctiveness from mainland Japan and see themselves as a victim of double imperialism by both the US and Japan.
