For those who think this is new, this is how the majority felt about including gay people and a plethora of other social issues in their media even ten years ago. This has been happening since the 1960s. It’s just that the issues back then have been so normalized we don’t see it.
It’s interesting to go back and watch boomer TV, since if you know the social context, it’s clear that the shows were heavily laden with progressivism at the time and were meant to promote specific social views on race, gender, family, etc.
Numerous TV shows would be cancelled in the rural purge of 1971-1972 for catering to the wrong demographics who had the wrong social views. Popular shows like Combat! that could pull millions were theorized to be cancelled due to meddling based on not promoting “the right causes”
There a certain type of guy that wants to go back to the 90s or 2000s when “woke” wasn’t around, but either he’s been ignoring it or even approved of what was progressive back then and thinks it’s going just a little too far now.
Resposted the thread since the initial quote tweet came off as hostile to OP rather than trying to talk about how it’s always been a pernicious influence and is only being recognized en masse in the age of social media
