What’s happening in south Lebanon, a quick takeaway after 3 days of fluctuating tension:
- Hezbollah’s attacks in the occupied Sheba’ farms were a declared indication to Israel that the “unification of fronts” strategy is now in action, yet within the old rules of engagement.
- ie. if Israel escalates its offensive with a goal such as invading Gaza and annihilating Hamas and Islamic Jihad, then the rules are going to change. How? Next post.
- the second message came from outside the area of usual engagement, from the western sector of the Lebanese border. A small group from the Pal. Islamic jihad infiltrated the border. Message here: border would be open for Pal groups to operate.
- Israel’s response was clear, targeting Hezb observation posts, killing 3 and wounding at least 10 Hezb fighters. Israeli answer was: Hezbollah will be responsible for any activity from Lebanon. What’s next?
- A counter message from Hezbollah to Israel was launched yesterday when they retaliated hitting the “Biranit" barracks, which is the command center of the Galilee Division, and the "Avivim" military Barracks, which is a clerical command center affiliated with the Western Brigade, using guided missiles.
- the status of now war no peace is gradually fading and rather south Lebanon is now an operation area, not a war zone yet. Today’s developments should tell us more of how things are going and whether a new front will open, ie. widening the war into a semi-regional confrontation.
- let’s also keep eyes on the Syrian border where Hezbollah and the Iranians have been over the past years building an infrastructure for an additional front.
