we believed in 'canadian politeness' back in suburban high school, where everyone grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same church. then we ventured into the cities and learned how much of a BIG LIE it was.
tbf this is probably (most definitely) a universal experience. just that the uniquely canadian eagerness to push this image of "politeness" makes the illusion-shattering moment sting much harder
granted, when I lived in *tt*w*, among the 5th and 6th generation working class canadiens, my neighbors were, for the most part, exceedingly polite to me. but that's only bcos I was polite back. apart from me, they got on each others necks all the time.
"politeness" is one of the big lies used to 'unite' c*n*d*. 'bilingualism' and 'three founding peoples (french, english, first nations)' are the other lies.
americans had a proper ethnogenesis with the revolutionary war, and all the wars that followed. c*n*d* is its complete negation. a frontier colony of a far away empire built solely for resource extraction. you can't make a culture in those conditions.
