Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan met a brahmin named Brij Bhukan; he was so pleased to see him that he asked for the derivation of the word "Hindu.".
Brij Bhukan replied “The one who is far away from sin."
Hearing this, Shah Jahan desired that the Brahmin can ask for any favour from him, and it will be granted.

Their descendant, "Pandit Brij Lal," who settled in Lahore, became a court Pandit under Maharaja Ranjit Singh to read and explain the Sanskrit books.
After his death, his son, Madhosudan, also served Lahore Darbar. He was appointed Head Priest in 1808 and was given charge of the Charities Department.
