Your can't save your parents.
You can't change their habits or get them to see what they don't want to see.

HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Many of us have parents who are stuck in cycles that cause them issues. These can be issues in their marriage, financial issues, or any other issue that comes up over and over again.
This can be very overwhelming to watch.
No one wants to see anyone they love suffer. And often these parents create a dynamic where their adult child is expected to rescue, fix, or cater to the situation.
No one wants to see anyone they love suffer. And often these parents create a dynamic where their adult child is expected to rescue, fix, or cater to the situation.
Usually, this dynamic has been going on since childhood. Where the adult child was the "responsible parent" beginning at a very young age.
With time, resentment builds because the adult child feels helpless. No matter how much effort and energy they put in, their parent stays in the same cycle.
One of life's most painful (and important) lessons is that not everyone wants to change. Including our parents. Even if they're in a bad situation and even if they're miserable. The familiar feels safe. And change feels overwhelming.
The greatest gift we can give our parents is not to continue to parent them as we age. It's not to lecture them, to solve their problems, or to sacrifice our own needs as we betray ourselves.
The greatest gift we can give our parents is to build healthy relationships, healthy homes, and healthy children.
That's how we break the cycle.
That's how we break the cycle.
We can love, respect, and honor our parents by accepting them where they're at.
We can love, respect, and honor ourselves by knowing our limits and letting go of our desire to save them.
