The opening scene from the movie Dasavataram shows Kulottunga Chola as a bigot who persecutes Ramanuja and his Vaishnava disciples.
This is certainly not true. Kulottunga Chola was a patron of many Vishnu temples and Vaisnavism flourished during his rule

Far from persecuting Vaishnavas, Kulottunga Chola I built Vishnu temples. The Soumyanatha Swamy temple at Nandalur (Kadapa) was built by him. He also donated lands and gifts (through his ministers) to Sowriraja Perumal temple which is one of 108 Vaishnava Divya Deshams
Noted Tamil Historian and Epigraphist Balasubrahmanyam dismisses this myth in his book "Chola Temples"(1975)
A list of donations made to Vishnu temples by Kulottunga I (information gathered from his own inscriptions)
The movie showed this king as a vile bigot who persecuted Vaishnavas
Of all Chola kings, only one king (Kulottunga Chola II) did not patronize Vaishnava temples. He was a zealous Shaiva and he closed down Govindaraja temple inside Chidambaram
There is still no evidence that this king persecuted Vaishnavas. He patronized Kamban author of Ramayana
