One could easily ask themselves 'when was the last time I walked barefoot on dirt or grass?' Among the many commands the Prophet ﷺ gave without explaining too much about it, is walking barefoot at times, which is what is now known as "earthing".
As we now know, all people, animals, plants, and even inanimate objects are electrical beings surrounded by an electrical world. Given that we're all made of atoms, we all have a net charge of -, +, or neutral. Every chemical reaction in the body involves electrical charges.
Particles being repelled and attracted. We're held together as a solid by those electrical charges. So, when the body's electrical charge is off, it results in chemical reactions that shouldn't happen or happen when they shouldn't.
The Earth itself is naturally full of negative electrons that pulse out in a pattern and natural rhythms of radiation from the sun, lightning, and orbit of the Earth recharge this, and so the Earth's surface conducts an electrical energy.
or grass may be contributing to health problems compared to our predecessors who regularly were more in contact. Some of the research backed benefits include: regulating stress hormone cortisol, neutralize free radicals, reduce inflammation, improve sleep, reduces pain.
There's so many different topics that can be linked to the Prophet (saw) overall. At some point people will have accept that he was either a genius in a wide array of topics he never studied, or he was inspired the Knowing, the Most Merciful.
The commentators cite reasons about humility and prep for hardship for this command. But there's no outright statement by the Prophet as to why he commanded this, rather we know him to Command what's beneficial in inapparent ways as well. And Allah knows best.
Relevant Hadith:
“A man from the companions of Rasulullah traveled to Fadalah ibn ‘Ubayd (RA) when he was in Egypt. After a brief conversation he asked him ‘Why do I not see any shoes on you?’
Fadalah replied: Nabi would command us to go barefoot sometimes.”
