Ive been clear in saying that the SPA agreement betrayed the revolution & I gave my reasons for this in my thread in July since then everything I’ve seen has only confirmed that view.But what I didnt address back then is the SPA motive for signing the deal
After the June Massacre the regime was under huge amounts of international & local pressure. The combined strategy of Public strikes & building barricades & leaving them was hugely successful & succeeded in preserving life by avoiding direct confrontation with regime forces
Tensions after the massacre within the Army where at breaking point it would have taken a miracle for the Military council at that point to avert a move to overthrow them. As such the TMC were desperate for a negotiated settlement with the SPA to ensure their survival
Knowing this the SPA set 6 conditions for talks knowing that the TMC would never be able to meet them as one of the conditions effectively required the TMC Generals to hand themselves over for prosecution. The SPA 6 conditions was effectively inviting for the regime to fall
Up until this point the SPA(FFC) had shown tactical shrewdness & immense levels of political skill. Then Overnight without consultation & despite pledging it would not enter into direct negotiations with the regime suddenly a draft agreement was declared.What changed their minds?
Given the SPA’s political astuteness up until this point it’s hard to believe that this agreement is down to naivety.I struggle to believe that anyone within the SPA & wider FFC leadership believed that an agreement that maintained a General as head of State Hemedti as his deputy
Left both the Military & militia’s outside civilian oversight not to mention gave control of the interior ministry to the Army to ensure that the police remained Controlled by the Army. Did not disband the much hated NISS (intelligence & Security service). It is hard for me to
believe that the SPA signed up to this believing that this agreement was a step towards a democratic transition.
What is interesting is the cosmetic changes agreed by the SPA(FFC) & the Generals to allow the SPA to be able to sell the agreement back to the people in Sudan.

For example Burhan under the agreement gets all the powers of President he is the head of state he controls the Army, he is a like for like replacement for Bashir. But his official title isn’t President. What he is is President of the Presidential (sovereign) Council.
The hated NISS got a name change & a new logo. These cosmetics changes were deliberately crafted by the FFC & the Generals to undermine legitimate criticism of the Agreement & to fool a population in believing that there is real change.
But make no mistake we have a Military Dictator for President & the NISS is alive & well. Press freedom is non existent and political detainees remain in Prison. Justice for the martyrs is neglected & civilian representatives remain silent as Hemedti tours Sudan claiming he’s the
Guardian of the revolution. All while the bodies of his revolutionary victims are still being recovered.
So to answer my earlier question what changed that made @AssociationSd (FFC) decide to betray the revolution & those who died for it? It is very hard to rule out that the SPA(FFC) where corrupted in fact it’s probably the most plausible explanation!!
