1/ Gooood morning, #medtwitter! Today, we’re bringing you another installment of our newest series: #ReadingRoom.
Questions #1-3:
1️⃣What do ground glass opacities (GGO) look like?
2️⃣What causes them?
3️⃣What’s your ddx when you see them?
2/ To answer Q#1: GGOs appear more radiodense than normal lung, without obliterating the underlying lung parenchyma. It looks like lung, but grayer.
3/ Q#2: GGOs occur when alveoli are partially filled with something other than air. Compare this to consolidations, which are even more radiodense than GGOs and which obscure the underlying lung architecture.
4/ Q#3: Lots of things can cause GGOs - blood, pus, edema... so history is crucial in helping you to narrow down your differential and recommending the therapy that’s going to help your patient feel better.
5/ That’s all for today, folks! Shoutout to @StefanTigges for putting this post together.
