I am aware that a lot of you are keen to hear back from people you look up to. If you are reaching out to them using Twitter or even email, there are effective ways to do this in order to increase your chances of getting back a reply:
- don't state your problem directly; introduce yourself first, people are generally curious about people (even experts)
- explain your problem briefly with a clear objective; not too formal but show you are genuinely serious & curious
- keep the message short and concise
- showing progress is important if even if all you did was read; in reality, you should have at least attempted the problem yourself before reaching out for help
- explain your progress; it's important to state your efforts and where you need help specifically...
- ... is it a technical challenge or a concept you are not understanding? explain clearly
- share links where it applies
- pass your email or message through a spell checker; we all do; it shows you spent time composing your message
- click send 📨
- be patient 🙏
not claiming that this formula guarantees a reply but I think it certainly increases your chances of getting a reply. If no response, that's okay! People are also very busy, try another option: community, other experts, forums, etc.
finally, this thread didn't go through a spell checker but I hope you are lucky the next time you seek help from an expert. ;)
