BANGTAN MEMBERS AND THEIR LOVE LANGUAGES: A WHOLESOME THREAD
“the 5 love languages” was developed and written by dr. gary chapman in 1992 that noted five general categories in which we as humans tend to prefer to give and receive love. the 5 are: quality time, words of affirmation, physical touch, gifts, and acts of service.
this thread will focus on how each member tends to give love to and seems to enjoy receiving love from the other members. every human has a primary love language. some of us have a secondary one that we also use often. this thread will go in age order from seokjin to jungkook.
1. SEOKJIN: his primary love language for giving love is ACTS OF SERVICE. although jin’s personality type is intp, which makes him an introvert, he often takes the lead role as the ice breaker/mood maker of the group.... bc he loves them. this action within itself is a service.
an example of jin’s “acts of service” love language in action is in this clip when bts were guests on knowing bros. all members, including jin, were nervous. but jin stepped up and made everyone laugh so that the other members would feel more comfortable
seokjin has stated that being the mood maker, especially in new settings like a variety/talk show, is tough on him. he feels more nervous, his ears get red, etc. but he would rather take on that burden himself than have any other member do it. this is his way of showing love.
seokjin is the member that will wake up early to cook for everyone, who will give massages when the members are sore, will be the first to volunteer if the others are tired, always offers to do smtn for another member he sees struggling. all his acts of service love language.
seokjin is known for his “hyung will do it” phrase that he says often to all the members. this is probably the best example of how his primary love language is “acts of service”. he enjoys doing things for others. he does it because he loves them.
1B. SEOKJIN: his primary love language for receiving love is WORDS OF AFFIRMATION. seokjin seems to enjoy hearing from the other members that they appreciate him and love him. in addition, he becomes very happy when hoseok compliments his dancing or someone compliments his voice.
an example of seokjins preference for receiving love through the love language of “words of affirmation” is this clip. hoseok is off to the side cheering for him and giving him compliments. look how happy he gets to hear he’s doing well 🥺
jin has spoken about compliments and how much they mean to him. he said on “hello counselor” that receiving compliments boosts self esteem and mentioned in a vlive that he gives himself compliments not to be conceited or self-centered but for self-love and to make himself happy!
2. YOONGI: his primary love language to give love is QUALITY TIME. his personality type is infp. although he does enjoy his time alone, yoongi intentionally sets out time to spend with members— as a group and also in different pairs and trios. this is his way of showing love.
for yoongi, having time alone with the people he cares abt seems to make him very happy. the strawberry farm w the members, bon voyage, fishing, etc. an example of this is his time spent with taehyung during bv2. yoongi said spending more time w taehyung has brought them closer.
members always speak highly of the things theyve done w yoongi, it seems they understand this is his love language as well. be even though yoongi does things like put a keypad lock on his studio door... hes also given members like jk the passcode. he loves being around them.
yoongi’s secondary love language for giving love is ACTS OF SERVICE. he’s said that he’s gotten this trait from his father, but he tends to “take care of the members quietly”. whenever he does things like cook, drive, build something, etc. that’s a display of his love language.
2B. YOONGI: his primary love language for receiving love is WORDS OF AFFIRMATION. yoongi gets extremely happy and tends to hide his face and/or blush when the members compliment him. he seems to enjoy hearing their praises even when he playfully pretends he doesnt 🥺
an example of yoongi’s love language for receiving love being “words of affirmation” is this clip in which taehyung compliments his rapping and musical ability. yoongi gets very smiley, he blushes, hides his face, etc. compliments make him happy!
after hoseok finishes his letter to yoongi, yoongi gets up and literally screams because hes so flustered. hearing nice/touching things makes him emotional, but his reactions to them are very cute. please keep doing it. he loves compliments 🥺
3. HOSEOK: his primary love language for giving love is PHYSICAL TOUCH. hoseok is very expressive of his love and often shows it by hugging, kissing, cuddling, and holding the members. each time he does that, hes showing his love for them. he isn’t shy when it comes to affection!
hoseok’s personality type is esfj. these personality types tend to be very friendly, outgoing, and are known for being caretakers. because hoseok comes from a family where he is younger, but within bangtan is older than the majority, he is equally affectionate with all members.
hoseok expresses his “physical touch” love language very often with all the members. whether its his way of thanking them, congratulating them, or simply appreciating their presence, he’s always clinging to them in one way or another!
3B. HOSEOK: his primary love language for receiving love is GIFTS. a person who has this love language isn’t materialistic, however, it touches their heart to get something from the people they love. a gift is something they can keep to remind them of that person and feel loved!
no matter what the gift is, hoseok is always very VERY happy and excited and always in a bit of disbelief. he laughs really loud, smiles big, and even asks “for real?” and “this is for me? hyung? for real?” receiving something from someone he loves is very important to hoseok.
hoseok’s heart is huge so please keep in mind that its not What the members get him that makes “receiving gifts” his love language, but the fact that it makes him EXTREMELY HAPPY to get anything at all. its the idea that the members thought of him and spent effort that he loves.
4. NAMJOON: his primary love language to give love is WORDS OF AFFIRMATION. perhaps this is what makes him such a great leader, but he always seems to have the right thing to say and compliments the members exactly when they need it. he uses his words to comfort and love.
namjoons personality type is enfp, (was infp- festa, 2017). these personality types tend to be independent and charming. its been said time and time again that namjoons words mean so much to the members. namjoon also values the weight of words and compliments the members often!
especially when it comes to the members’ performance, namjoon is always one of the first to compliment the members on how well they did and how good they look. he understands praise can go a long way and shows his love to the members this way.
namjoon’s secondary love language to give love is ACTS OF SERVICE. although he has said himself he is not very affectionate physically, he shows his affection by doing things for the members. he often takes on more of the burden intentionally so that its less for everyone else.
4B. NAMJOON: his primary love language for receiving love seems to be QUALITY TIME. namjoon enjoys exploring, traveling, etc. to take a step back from the hectic world of the music industry. he often makes time for the members to do things together and enjoy their company.
namjoon is extremely intellectual, and he enjoys conversations that are philosophical. if a member makes time to sit down and talk with him about life, he tends to appreciate that very much. convos like this one with jimin are dear to namjoons heart.
often, when namjoon speaks abt the members he mentions taking time to “understand them”. he’s able to do that by spending time with them and learning about them. it seems important for others to do the same for him. he seems to value time together and thoughts shared very much.
5. JIMIN: his primary love language for giving love is PHYSICAL TOUCH. jimin is often seen hugging the members, laying on them, holding their hands, and petting their hair. he isnt shy with affection and uses it often to let the members know he loves them and cares for them.
jimins personality type is enfj. these personalities are known for having charisma, being leaders, and having the ability to communicate with others. jimin is great with expressing himself with his words, and he also uses touch to show how much he cares about those around him.
an example of jimin’s “physical touch” love language is this clip from a vlive. jimin uses frequent casual touches— hugging taehyung, leaning on him, resting his head on his lap, etc. jimin uses this love language with all members to show he loves them
jimin presents as someone that is somewhat of a natural nurturer and he seems to take pride in caring for the members. even when they aren’t upset, jimins is always there to hug them and remind them he loves them!
jimins secondary love language to give love often presents as QUALITY TIME. jimin, similar to namjoon and yoongi, enjoy undivided time with the members. whether its taking a trip, going to eat, or simply having a deep talk, jimin seems to enjoy time alone with the members!
5B. JIMIN: his primary love language to receive love is WORDS OF AFFIRMATION. jimin loves to be told he’s done a good job, that he’s improving, or that someone is proud of him. he loves hearing the members tell him they love him. compliments are a sure way to make jimin smile!
an example of jimins “words of affirmation” love language preference is this clip of him asking his staff “i killed it on stage, right?” and them replying “yes you did!” instantly, he’s smiling widerc laughing, and happier to be told he did good 🥺
6. TAEHYUNG: his primary love language for giving love often presents as GIVING GIFTS. whether it’s something he’s bought or something he’s made, taehyung shows his love by giving the members items to show he loves them and is often thinking of them no matter where he is.
taehyungs personality type is enfp. these personality are known for being free spirits, charming, and compassionate. taehyung often displays his compassion for the members by buying things they need, or things taehyung thinks they’ll enjoy. this is his way to express love.
an example of taehyungs “gift giving” love language in action is this clip of him shopping in malta. he ends up buying gifts for namjoon, hoseok, jimin, etc. simply because those items made him think of them. he uses gifts often to show his love!
through the years, we’ve seen taehyung place value on the items he gives the members. and lately, as he continues to explore art, he uses his photography & art skills as gifts as well (ex. customizing jimins phone case). the gifts let the members know taehyung loves them.
taehyungs secondary love language is QUALITY TIME. similar to the way taehyung sets aside time to chat with fans, he makes time to spend alone with the members as well. it has been said that he is the one that plans their vacations. he enjoys experiencing life with the members.
6B. TAEHYUNG: it seems his preferred love language to receive love is WORDS OF AFFIRMATION. taehyung notes holding a lot of value in words. he said he cried after reading yoongi’s loving message to him, & jimin telling him he wants to be his strength made him not want to fight.
an example of taehyung enjoying receiving the love language of “words of affirmation” is this clip of jimin and hoseok praising his song. taehyung usually smiles a bit shyly when he’s complimented, but it’s apparent it makes him happy to receive them.
as a close second, taehyung also seems to enjoy receiving the love language of PHYSICAL TOUCH. he likes when the members hug him, cuddle him, pet his hair, etc. an example is within this video in which he receives both words of affirmation & physical touch
7. JUNGKOOK: his primary love language for giving love seems to be ACTS OF SERVICE. jungkook often takes it upon himself to clean up so the others dont have to, does everyones laundry, volunteers to drive, & does other taxing things to spare the others. this is how he shows love.
an example of jungkook’s “act of service” love language would be within this clip where taehyung casually mentions, “those thorns look painful” and jungkook immediately asks, “do you want me to take them down?” he is always fast to offer himself to help
another example of jk displaying the love language of “acts of service” is within a recent run episode. altho he was on the winning team, he stayed behind to wash the dishes. he does things like this because he loves the people around him and wants to help
jk enjoys things like cleaning, so perhaps it doesn’t feel like a chore for him to volunteer to do those things, but he does them often so the members don’t have to. by doing this, he is showing the members he loves them and is willing to do things they dont want to for them.
7B. JUNGKOOK: his primary love language to receive love seems to be PHYSICAL TOUCH. as the youngest, jungkook is doted on often, but he seems to enjoy it! jungkook often leans into their touches and cuddles, and likes being hugged.
jungkook’s personality type is infp. he is a bit shy around people who aren’t the members, but he is completely comfortable them. he seems to enjoy “physical touch” from the members a lot, no matter if he is giving it or receiving it 🥺

@_hope_made this is based off their personality results they gave for their 2017 festa but he might’ve mentioned a new personality type recently.
@misfitToysUnltd In addition, your receiving love language isn’t just things you ask for. I personally love physical touch as a receiving love language, but I don’t necessarily ask for a hug or for someone to hold my hand. It’s just things that make you happy. Jimin just happens to be very vocal.
