The hordes of Bahmani Sultanate had been ravaging the Deccan culturally and economically for the last 110 years.

By now Bahmanis had subjugated most of the Mahratta Rajas of the Desha region but the Konkan Tract still stood independent.
It was the year 1453, the 14th reigning Bahmani Sultan was a debauched, over-ambitious megalomaniac named Alauddin Ahmed Shah Bahmani.

The same year he decided to conquer all the Coastal-Forts of Konkan.
He put the responsibility of the campaign on his finest general, his Grand Vizier, a Shia Muslim named Malik-ut-Tujjar.
He put the responsibility of the campaign on his finest general, his Grand Vizier, a Shia Muslim named Malik-ut-Tujjar.
Malik-ut-Tujjar started his march towards Konkan from the Bahmani bastion, Bidar with 7000 elite Shia and around 3000 Sunni forces, a total of 10,000 of the deadliest Islamist fighters assembled by the Bahmanis under the same banner.
Malik penetrated Konkan by first capturing the fort of Chakan after great resistance. He could then set up a launch station at Chakan fort. The Mleccha army then defeated the Shirke Raja of North Konkan after a ferocious battle.
To acquire such a mighty warrior as an ally on the side of Islam, Malik-ut-Tujjar ordered the Shirke Raja to convert to save his life.
But Shirke Raja informed Malik about his enmity with the Dharmābhimani Raja of South Konkan, ShankarRaya Moŕe.

Shirke Raja explained that if he converted to Islam, once the Bahmani armies leave, ShankarRaya would destroy the Shirke Kingdom.
He requested Malik-ut-Tujjar to preemptively attack More's capital, Vishalgadh (Khelna) and secure him first.

Shirke thus proposed to Malik an alliance against ShankarRaya Moŕe.
Shirke insisted upon the conversion of ShankarRaya along with him if Islam was to be secured.
Malik was well aware of the dense jungles around the Vishalgadh region and was hesitant on accepting Shirke's proposal

But the astute Shirke Raja assured Malik that he would guide his armies to Vishalgadh through a safer way.
Fanatical Malik could not resist the temptation of converting two of the most powerful Mahratta rulers of Konkan, which was even more alluring than gaining territory.

But the Sunni contingent, not trusting this Shia general ultimately decided not to march forward. The Sunnis started marching back to Chakan Fort.

Within no time a major group of his forces were gone but Malik-ut-Tujjar had made himself determined on defeating and converting ShankarRaya.
Along with the Shirke Raja, Malik started with his remaining Shia army towards Vishalgadh.

The guileful Shirke King acted obediently during the first two days of the march and completely won Malik's trust. But from the third day onwards, Shirke started behaving strangely.
Instead of providing safe passage to the Bahmani forces, he misguided them to dark, dense forests

This continued for the next 2 days and the Bahmani armies were badly exhausted.
Some of them, devoid of sunlight even fell ill.
Shirke now deployed his secret messenger to his Hindu colleague ShankarRaya and a plan of a combined attack was hatched.

On the fifth day when the Bahmani forces were unwinding, the Jungle itself suddenly erupted with roars of "HAR HAR MAHADEV!" and within no time bloodthirsty Mahratta Swords of Moŕes and Shirkes fell upon the Mlecchas from all four sides butchering them like poultry.
The onslaught of the Mahrattas was so swift and thunderous that the Bahmanis couldn't even remove their swords from the scabbard. In the dense alien jungle, the Bahmanis had no way out of this bloodbath.
The merciless massacre continued and every tree in that glade was watered with copious Mleccha blood!
The decimation was almost complete and around 7,000 Mlecchas were slaughtered in a matter of minutes.

Only a handful of Bahmanis could wade out of the blood-soaked mud and retrace their way back to Chakan Fort.
Unfortunately, the sectarian bigot Sultan Alauddin, who was fuming at this humiliating defeat at the hands of the Mahrattas, commanded his troops to kill off the remnants of the Shia contingents along with their families.
Thus this army of the Islamist despot was annihilated.

The two Kshatrakulis of Konkan continued to rule independently until the end of the 15th century.
