We all have our demons.
Mine pull out guns, fire at my feet
& order me to dance until I die
& that I act like I like it too.
We all have our demons.
Mine sends me postcards that say
“Having a hell of a time without you.

Mine ask me tricky questions.
“How can you count on your reason for figuring out your money but not for falling in love?”
“Don’t you know by now that someone who lies to everybody else is bound to lie to you too?”
I tell them that I answer to no one

and as soon as I get some hope
I pass it on keeping none.
I linger with the hopeless
and breathe in the fearless atmosphere
with just the shadow of a thought
that you might really love me..

Everyone has their demons. Maybe I can
get mine to look for kicks elsewhere.
The best way to become invisible
is to make it so nobody wants to look at you.
So I start making faces. My first face was a mirror.
The face I’m wearing now is covered with words.
